Career

Zhiganshin became interested in skating after his mother took him along to his sister, Nelli's, practices.[6] He took up ice dancing at age nine. He had one partner and was then partnerless for a year before meeting Sinitsina in a group coached by Irina Lobacheva and Ilia Averbukh.[6] Not long after, they joined Elena Kustarova and Svetlana Alexeeva.[6]

Sinitsina and Zhiganshina debuted on the Junior Grand Prix circuit at the 2008 Merano Cup where they finished 6th. The following JGP season, they finished 5th at both of their events.

They won a pair of silver medals during the 2010-2011 JGP season and qualified for the JGP Final. At the Final, they won the short dance[7] and placed second in the free dance to take the silver behind Ksenia Monko and Kirill Khaliavin. They withdrew from the 2011 Russian Junior Championships due to Sinitsina's illness.[8]

In the 2011–2012 season, Sinitsina and Zhiganshin won gold at the Junior Grand Prix event in Poland, their first JGP title. They won another title in Austria to qualify for their second Final. At the Junior Grand Prix Final, they placed first in both segments and won the title.

Personal life

Ruslan Zhiganshin is the brother of Nelli Zhiganshina, who competes for Germany.[9]
